Fans Divided Over Lewis Hamilton’s Rumoured $76 Million Salary After Max Verstappen Signed Largest Contract in 2022

Recent reports have suggested that 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will get a new contract worth $690 Million for the next two years with Mercedes.

Further breakdown of his salary showed that this would mean a massive $76 Million a year for the Briton.

This huge amount of paycheck has been received with berserk reactions from the F1 world with some of the fans even calling it an ‘obscene amount.’

Last year in 2022, Hamilton’s rival Max Verstappen sealed the biggest deal in the history of F1 with a $53 Million per year contract after his first championship title.

Comparing that with Hamilton’s new rumoured contract, F1 fans have been divided over their opinion on the insane sums of money.

Fans compare Hamilton’s deal with Verstappen’s

On Twitter, one fan pointed out that while he is a Hamilton fan, the rumoured deal is too massive and there should be a cap on drivers’ salaries as well.

Meanwhile, another F1 fan pointed out that when Verstappen sealed his historic contract it was labelled as ‘he deserved it.’ So what is the difference now?

Rumoured contract of Lewis Hamilton

A French media outlet 20 minutes had reported Hamilton’s new multi-year contract in F1 to be worth $217.8 Million.

On top of that, it was reported that the 7-time world champion is asking for an additional deal as a Mercedes ambassador worth $389.6  Million over 10 years.

Putting it all together, if Hamilton signs the deal he would earn a total of $680.9 Million over the next 13 years.
