"For strategic reasons we decided to [pit]” - Sergio Perez sacrificed potential Top 10 finish to prevent bonus point for Lewis Hamilton

“For strategic reasons, we decided to [pit]” – Sergio Perez sacrificed potential points for himself to prevent Lewis Hamilton from winning the bonus point for fastest lap in the British GP at Silverstone.

Sergio Perez had a moment with the Alfa Romeo of Kimi Raikkonen towards the end of the race. Perez moved on, but Raikkonen suffered a loss of a few places, missing out on a potential Top 10 finish. Perez, however, felt the Finn was bring over-optimistic with his maneuver.

“I think he was just over-optimistic. He was moving very late into [turn] 15. I overtook him around the outside, and then at 16 I was on the inside so I was ahead of him and he tried to stay around the outside.”

Weekend to forget for Red Bull

Red Bull had a Sunday to forget at the British Grand Prix, going home with a sum total of zero points. This after Max Verstappen crashed out of the race after starting from pole, and Sergio Perez went through a topsy-turvy race, starting from the pit lane entry after he crashed out too in the first-ever sprint qualifying race on Saturday.

Perez: Definitely a big weekend for us to forget

“We were not able to make as much progress as expected. We found ourselves in a very difficult position with tyres. As soon as we were getting into the DRS train it was pretty hard to pass people.

“I think P7 was possible today, definitely. I think Lance [Stroll] and Fernando [Alonso], with a couple more laps definitely I could have got them, but more than that was pretty difficult and in the end for strategic reasons we decided to [pit].”
