“George Russell literally and figuratively shattered Hamilton’s plan” - Ex-driver Christijan Albers believes Lewis Hamilton's time is up at Mercedes

“George Russell literally and figuratively shattered Hamilton’s plan” – Christijan Albers believes Lewis Hamilton should listen to Daimler’s demands and sign a contract with the Mercedes F1 team.

The F1 2021 season is just a couple of months away, and yet the reigning champion is out without a seat. Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ parents Daimler are yet to agree on a contract extension beyond 2020.

Christijan Albers, the former Minardi, Midland, and Spyker driver, believes George Russell has handed the bargaining power right into the hands of Mercedes. The Dutch also lambasted Hamilton for sticking to his demands of higher pay when the world is just recovering from an economic catastrophe.

The demands in question include a much improved financial contract and a 3-year deal. Daimler is not ready to agree to anything beyond a one-year contract. Albers was speaking to De Telegraaf regarding the Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes saga.

“What is the last 10 million for him? The world is on fire and you have to take into account that his own business model no longer works.”

Bernie Ecclestone believes Lewis Hamilton will sign for Mercedes

Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone doesn’t believe in all the drama though and even suggests the contract might have been signed already. He has called it a PR stunt by Mercedes to keep their champion driver in the news. He gave this typically bold statement speaking to the German Blick.

“It’s all just show so that Lewis, in particular, stays in the headlines during these dreary weeks.”
