"Get the results"- Ferrari to Antonio Giovinazzi in response to his ambitions

“Get the results”- Ferrari to Antonio Giovinazzi amidst his ambition to drive for the main team once a need to replace someone arises.

Antonio Giovinazzi is one of the Ferrari’s academy products, who has surpassed two years in Formula 1. Yet, when it came to replacing Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari snubbed him and outsourced Carlos Sainz.

The 27-year-old race driver was mildly disappointed to not been approached by Ferrari, as he thought that he was “next in line”. Now, Giovinazzi has revealed that Ferrari has certain performativity demands before he can be promoted.

“For Ferrari, it’s quite clear – they want that I continue to progress [as] a driver and to get the results,” Giovinazzi told Motorsport.com“This is quite clear also from my side, so it’s my target for next season.”

“And from the other side I want to just again work really well with the team as we worked in together in these last two seasons, and for me, I feel like family already [here] because it will be my third season.”

“It’s nice to work again together, and with Kimi as well. Like this, it would be just easier to progress [as] a driver as well.”

My progress depends on Alfa Romeo.

Given Ferrari chose to announce a replacement early in 2020, and Giovinazzi had only his rookie season performances in his CV. His 2020 performances displayed his actual growth, but at that point, Ferrari had already committed to Sainz.

But on this new revelation by Giovinazzi, the Italian international also interjects that his results are not only dependent upon his talent, and would also be affected by the car given Alfa Romeo.

“Hopefully we have a better car and [it] be easier to be in the points”, he said. “Hopefully we can have a big improvement in terms of performance. And then also in terms of results.

“I think for the team when you are there in the back, and it’s not easy. I always try to push my guys, the team, to do always well. I think in the end we did quite well – I always see the guys quite motivated.”

“Of course when you score points, it’s always in the next race you feel that the motivation is much higher, but I cannot complain with my guys, with my team, because they always push quite hard and it’s nice to see in this difficult season.”
