“He is a funny character” – Pierre Gasly bonding extremely well with new Alpha teammate Yuki Tsunoda
“He is a funny character” – Pierre Gasly is bonding extremely well with new AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda, and is proud of him taking inspiration from the late Anthoine Hubert.
Formula 2 had named an award in honour of the late Anthoine Hubert, for his excellent performances in his rookie season. Yuki Tsunoda was the first receipient of the award, also helping him to fire up to Formula 1 for his rookie season with AlphaTauri this year. After the award, Tsunoda mentioned that he takes inspiration from the late driver, which has pleased Hubert’s very close friend and Tsunoda’s new teammate Pierre Gasly.
“It is always nice to hear these things. I knew Anthoine very well and I am also really glad and proud if he in some way inspired others. He was a really close friend of mine and it still sounds really strange to speak about him in that way and knowing he is not with us anymore. I am still not really used to that but obviously, nice words from Yuki.”

Pierre Gasly impressed with Yuki Tsunoda
Pierre Garly and Yuki Tsunoda have the task of helping AlphaTauri rise up to the Top 5, from their current P7 position. For that, team chemistry would be essential, on and off the track. The latter seems to be brewing well, with the Frenchman very impressed with the Japanese.
“He is a funny character. Obviously, I watch Formula 2 and Formula 3 every weekend. I like to see it because the racing is usually entertaining in these races. I think he has done very well. He won a couple of races, I have seen him on pole.
“Good racing, I think on some occasions he lost big points that could have put him even higher in the championship, I am not sure of the reasons. It is out of your control sometimes but generally, he performed very well.”
