"He was one of the first people I thought of"- Pierre Gasly reveals he remembered his old friend after Brazilian GP podium

“He was one of the first people I thought of”- Pierre Gasly informs that Anthoine Hubert came to his mind after the Brazilian GP glory.

Brazilian Grand Prix P2 was an important day of Pierre Gasly’s career. He was able to silence his critics and certify his calibre in the light of his fresh demotion from Red Bull to Toro Rosso (now Alpha Tauri).

Anthoine Hubert who died in the same year was a close friend of Gasly, and the Frenchman revealed that he remembered him after bagging his first podium in Formula 1.

“Anthoine, of course, he was one of the first people I thought of,” Gasly told French Turbo in an interview during the winter break. “Of course we think about it all the time, he’s like a brother with whom I grew up at school, I did the teenage bullshit, with him I trained five days a week, we went shopping together, we lived in the same flat.”

It was terrible to lose him.

Gasly also told that it was difficult to lose him, especially doing what he loved the most, hence Gasly had huge trouble dealing with the loss he obtained.

“We really did many, many things together and it was very, very difficult to lose him like that. We shared the same dream, so I feel the need to succeed for him as well,” Gasly said.

Before the race at Spa in 2020, Gasly gave a tribute to his childhood friend on the same spot where Hubert died. Additionally, Gasly had another successful year with Alpha Tauri, where he recorded his first F1 win.

The French race driver would be partnering with Yuki Tsunoda in 2021, who will make his F1 debut this year, after only spending only a year in F2, where his exhibitions made him win Anthoine Hubert award, granted to the best rookie driver of the year in the competition.
