“He’s the cool Finn” – Mercedes boss Toto Wolff lavishes praise on Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton
“He’s the cool Finn” – Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has lavished praise on Valtteri Bottas for being the perfect teammate to Lewis Hamilton.
Toto Wolff is very pleased with Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes, despite him not winning a single title. The Finn has won nine races since his predecessor Nico Rosberg retired four seasons ago.

And this works brilliantly for Wolff, who calls Bottas unfortunate for racing on one-year contracts. The Mercedes boss was speaking on the launch of the W12, expected to be the fastest F1 car in history.
“For Valtteri, he’s in the unfortunate situation for the last few years with one-year contracts. He functions really well with the pressure – he’s the cool Finn that is able to hold that back.
“But 2022 is a completely new year with new regulations and that’s why we just want to see how it pans out during the course of the year. But I’m really happy and the team of engineers is really happy and he deserves to be in a Mercedes.”

Toto Wolff also spoke about the stability Hamilton and Bottas bring to the Mercedes F1 team. Both drivers work against, and together, really well, helping them to every championship so far for Mercedes.
“Stability is key in every team. We work as a group collectively and we have two drivers that respect each other whilst racing each other hard out there.
“The development that we get from each of them is very valuable to the team. At the end it just works. We love interacting with Lewis and Valtteri and if you look back at the past it has been successful.”
