Hugh Jackman to play Enzo Ferrari

Hugh Jackman is in advanced talks to portray Enzo Ferrari in the racing drama aptly titled. It will be directed by legendary filmmaker Michael Mann.

The Australian-British superstar will play the leading role in the movie titled Ferrari. The movie is based on Brock Yates’ book “Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine”, reports Variety.

The movie focuses on Enzo Ferrari and how he re-built Ferrari in the 1950s. And Ferrari, now is one of the biggest names in the automobile industry.

The movie is set in 1957, on Enzo’s life on and off the tarmac. Enzo and his wife Laura built Ferrari, but their relationship soured due the demise of their son. Subsequently, he also had an illicit affair, and his second son was born off the affair.

STX has been awarded the distribution rights in the UK and Ireland. Amazon is hopeful of grabbing the international rights, because they are expecting huge revenues from it.

“Michael Mann will bring his passion for the extraordinarily vivid characters and the dangerous world of motor racing in the 1950s to create an epic, cinematic experience,” STX said in a press release.

Hugh Jackman holds the record of the longest stint with a Marvel character – the Wolverine. Because of his popularity, he is also one of the highest paid actors.

Other notable motor racing movies

James Mangold made the 2019 racing drama “Ford v Ferrari”.  Italian actor Remo Girone played Enzo Ferrari in the movie. This time, it is Hemsworth.

The film focused on the rivalry between Henry Ford and Enzo Ferrari as they both competed to dominate motor racing in the 1960s. Starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, it won Oscars in film and sound editing.

The most notable movie in recent memory on Formula One is the 2013 Rush. It highlighted the intense rivalry between late F1 legends James Hunt and Nikki Lauda. Thor fame Chris Hemsworth played the role of Hunt in this commercially and critically acclaimed drama.
