“I am excited to be heading into my ninth season with my Mercedes teammates” – Lewis Hamilton signs much-awaited contract extension
“I am excited to be heading into my ninth season with my Mercedes teammates” – Lewis Hamilton has finally agreed on the contract extension, after a prolonged deadlock.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have shaken the proverbial hands and agreed on the former’s contract extension. The deal is for a duration of just this season. Hamilton had been demanding a longer contract, but it has been rejected flat out.

Lewis Hamilton is vying to win a record eighth world title this season, surpassing the greatest of all time Michael Schumacher. It would have been a weird situation had the reigning champion would have been ‘unemployed’ in the sport.
Mercedes are the overwhelming favourites to win the title this season, with regulations similar to last season. With the signing of Hamilton, the Constructors and Drivers title have been decided without the season even seeing its red lights go out!
“I am excited to be heading into my ninth season with my Mercedes teammates. Our team has achieved incredible things together and we look forward to building on our success even further, while continuously looking to improve, both on and off the track.
“I’m equally determined to continue the journey we started to make motorsport more diverse for future generations and I am grateful that Mercedes has been extremely supportive of my call to address this issue.
“I’m proud to say we are taking that effort further this year by launching a foundation dedicated to diversity and inclusion in the sport. I am inspired by all that we can build together and can’t wait to get back on the track in March.”
