“I can’t pretend to be better”- Lando Norris acknowledges Daniel Ricciardo’s calibre ahead of his move to McLaren in 2021.
Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo are set to pair with each other for McLaren in 2021, and the hype around the pair is ever rising, as it is an ideal combination of youth and experience.
While Ricciardo overall is a more experienced driver, Norris is habitual with McLaren’s modus operandi. Yet, Norris doesn’t think he has the edge over his new teammate.
“That’s my aim for the next few years, to be the main guy in the team,” He said. “There are going to be things Daniel will bring to the team; he’s going to be able to say some things that I can’t add because I don’t have the 10 years of experience he has.”
“He has been with different teams, he has won races, and he has many more podiums [than me], and I can’t pretend to be better, because the experience is a huge factor.”
Need to capitalize
Norris claims that he needs to extend his efforts to maximise his results. He claims that he had moments in the past years, where he had the prospect of better results.
“I’ve been in positions to capitalise with a podium or bigger points. It doesn’t have to be a lot, just a combination of some small things. You’re one or two seconds ahead and can score a lot more points because of it.”
“I’ve been in those positions a lot more often, and it all adds up over time. I’m delighted with how I’ve done, but of course, there are always things I’d like to do that bit better on.”
McLaren finished P3 on the constructor’s table in 2020 after winning a close-knitted fight against Racing Point over the course of the season.
