"I don’t think Vettel can be dangerous to us"- Helmut Marko on the thought of Sebastian Vettel challenging Red Bull.

Sebastian Vettel is seen as the key for Aston Martin to its golden age, as the rebranded Racing Point set to head off into the grid in 2021, and now boasting the German race driver as their marquee signing.

However, Helmut Marko, the former employer of Vettel, doesn’t see the duo as a threat with the Austrian side ready to challenge for the championship this year.

He told F1-Insider: “I hope he finds his old form again. He knows himself that the last two years were not his best. For whatever reason. But I don’t think he can be dangerous to us.”

“In 2020 his new team was too far away from us for that. And that’s despite the fact that [Sergio] Perez was extremely strong, especially in the second half of the season.”

“Even if Sebastian is in top form every race, as a driver he can’t make up for the gap the team had on us. But maybe I’m wrong.”

Helmut Marko is not alone

While Marko has dismissed Aston Martin as a threat, former F1 driver Ralph Schumacher also warned Vettel of the limitations posed by Aston Martin.

On the other hand, former Formula 1 team Jordan’s boss cautioned the opposite party. According to him, the team has made a mistake in signing Vettel.

Honestly, there shouldn’t be much expected from Aston Martin at least in 2021, maybe in future they transform into a force to reckon with, but as of now they lack the right resources and people to challenge the top teams.

However, it also cannot be dismissed that they can be a kingmaker by creating little disturbances in the competition, and enhance the excitement into the competition, with odd podiums and strong results.
