“I don’t trust European hairdressers”- Yuki Tsunoda on how he ended up keeping long hair in 2020, as he never thought of doing it.
Yuki Tsunoda will be racing for Alpha Tauri this year after making a spectacular debut season in Formula 2 under the Red Bull programme. This year, during his F1 appearance in Bahrain, he appeared in short hair, opposite to the cool long hairstyle he had throughout 2020.
However, Tsunoda explained that he never intended to keep that look, and it was rather his distrust towards the European hairstylist that kept him away from having a haircut.
“Honestly, I don’t trust European hairdressers much because European hair is different from Asian hair,” the Japanese explained to the Esporte.
“Asian hair is tougher and European hair is softer. I always ask Japanese hairdressers what will happen if I use a European hairdresser, and they say that they may have difficulty because the type of hair is very different. That’s why I didn’t cut.”
But, Tsunoda couldn’t travel to his home nation Japan due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions, propelling him to take a haircut in Bahrain, where this year’s pre-season testing happened.
“I ended up cutting in Bahrain because my hair was too long. And? It wasn’t perfect. The style was exquisite, but it was not the style I would like.”
“It was cool, but I didn’t expect it to look like that. It changed a lot because it was too. It’s good because it’s hot in Bahrain, and I can feel the wind more.”
Stressed Bahrain test
Tsunoda then revealed he had a tough outing in Bahrain due to the nervousness of driving an F1 car for the first time at a non-Alpha Tauri arrangement in 2021.
“I was a little stressed out. I felt like I couldn’t normally drive at any time. For example, when I did my simulation without DRS, braking differs from when you have DRS. And braking makes everything work: o balance of the car, the rotation.”
“I couldn’t make the car turn because it kept coming out of the way.”
