“I have to fix on Saturdays”– Sergio Perez believes that he has to do better on Saturdays to get better final results amidst the championship fight.
Red Bull had an incredible day in Monaco, where they obtained 37 points against Mercedes’ 7 points, which cuts down their deficit, and brings the Milton Keynes based team with a one-point lead in the championship.
Surely, Sergio Perez had an incredible contribution to the points table, as he finished the fourth and could have done better on any other circuit, as Monaco didn’t allow him to overtake Lando Norris despite several opportunities.
Yet, it was an incredible recovery from Perez, who started the race from P9. Happy with the result, the Mexican still thinks he has a lot to improve.
“In such a long championship, minimizing bad days and coming out strong after a bad day is key and today we succeeded, the team did a fantastic job with the strategy. We show that we have the rhythm on Sunday, I have to fix on Saturdays,” said Perez.

“En un campeonato tan largo minimizar los días malos y salir fuerte tras un mal día es clave y hoy lo conseguimos, el equipo hizo un trabajo fantástico con la estrategia. Demostramos que tenemos el ritmo el domingo, tengo que arreglar los sábados.” #F1 pic.twitter.com/HgvJv3SoZM— Diego Mejia (@diegofmejia) May 23, 2021
On the other hand, his teammate Max Verstappen secured the win in Monaco, which also takes him to the top of the drivers’ championship. Meanwhile, Perez also climbs to 5th position with 44 points.
Title battle takes an interesting turn.
After the first four races, it seemed like Mercedes is going away with the title, but a weekend to forget type of Grand Prix has brought Red Bull back into the picture.
This has now intensified the competition for the next Grand Prix, which will be in Azerbaijan, during the first week of June. Like Monaco, the Baku circuit is also a street circuit, and a good qualifying could pre-determine the result.
Hence, Perez is correct when he says that he needs to improve his qualifying to support his teammate Verstappen.
