"I think that’s something Carlos doesn’t have" - Lando Norris reveals what makes Daniel Ricciardo an upgrade on Carlos Sainz at McLaren

“I think that’s something Carlos doesn’t have” – Lando Norris is very pleased with the arrival of Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren and reveals how he is an upgrade on former partner Carlos Sainz.

Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo will partner at McLaren this season, the latter replacing Carlos Sainz. The new pairing sounds very exciting off the track, and very promising inside it.

Both Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo have raced for Red Bull and Renault before switching to McLaren. So what makes Ricciardo stand out vis-a-vis Sainz? It’s the experience, both in terms of races and wins and podiums.

The Australian is still considered to be one of the best on the track. Naturally, it would be harsh if he leaves F1 without becoming a world champion. He has so far won seven races and grabbed the podium 31 times. Norris, his new partner, was all praise for him, and is excited to partner and compete with him.

“It’s going to be very good. [Ricciardo] is going to give a different perspective on a lot of things. I’m sure some comments are going to be similar to Carlos, because Carlos drove the Renault, and probably a lot of characteristics are similar.

“A lot of things Carlos talked about sometimes were when he drove a Renault, things were like this, and the team acted like this and different circumstances. A lot of knowledge that drivers have, and something that I learned from Carlos, his knowledge of how he worked with other teams.

“With Daniel, working with Red Bull a bit more and knowing how to win races and how a team wins races and the car he needs for that. I think that’s something Carlos doesn’t have. That’ll be very good for when Daniel comes in, giving those fresh ideas and helping the team move forward. I think it’s very good.”
