Imola GP 2023 Weather Forecast: Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Further Doubt as Teams Have Been Asked to Evacuate

There have been growing concerns that this weekend’s Imola Grand Prix could be cancelled due to excessive rains. Local authorities have issued a ‘red weather‘ for rains in the region and have also warned about the possibility of flooding.

And the latest news coming out from the region will certainly exacerbate the fears of cancellation. As per F1 Canal reporter, Julien Febreau, all the teams have been asked to evacuate the region as soon as possible. This massive development comes after the continuation of heavy rainfall and the beginning of flooding in certain areas.

Emilia Romagna GP at risk of cancellation due to ‘red weather

According to the details provided by the Italian meteorological website Arpae, the local Civil defense has declared the conditions as ‘red weather‘ for Tuesday and Wednesday. This categorization means that the weather is predicted to be dangerous for the upcoming few days.

Hence, as per this alert, travelling must be avoided at all costs and people are recommended to stay at their homes.  Moreover, according to Emi, schools and quarters will also be closed because of the ‘high risk of overflowing rivers‘. Hence, if the ‘red weather’ alert gets extended to the weekend, then the Imola GP is at a huge risk of cancellation.

Imola GP 2023 weather forecast

According to weather.com, heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next six days in the Imola region. Since the region is under a ‘red weather’ alert, all sorts of activities are likely to get disrupted.

And even if the race does go ahead, it can be assumed that it will be a wet race. Considering how wet the region is currently, it seems unlikely that teams would use anything other than the full wets for the whole weekend. When it comes to the temperature, a range of 12-17 Celsius is expected for Friday, May 19.
