“It is neither necessary nor beneficial for the team”- McLaren dismisses the need for a driver priority with Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris.
McLaren has a talented lineup in Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris who are set to perform for the team in 2021. Unlike other top teams, McLaren doesn’t want to dismiss the competition between the two drivers.
In a recent interview, McLaren boss has commented that he won’t be allowing any priority order between his two drivers, and they are free to compete against themselves.
“As long as I am a team leader, there will be no definite number one. We don’t have a number one or two drivers. It is neither necessary nor beneficial for the team dynamics,” Seidl said in an interview with German broadcaster RTL.
Ricciardo can help to reach the top.
According to Seidl, Ricciardo is a key addition to McLaren’s pursuit of the glory, as their revival took a massive surge last season by finishing P3 on the constructors’ table.
“I’m delighted with this driver pairing, and it will be excellent. Norris is almost a McLaren veteran now. Ricciardo is a reference that we have been missing in the last two years.”
“He has shown in the past that he can win races with the right material and can help us with our journey back to the top of Formula 1,” he added.
Meanwhile, Norris is also expected to make strides in his performances, as the bosses at McLaren think that his honeymoon period with the team is now over, and no longer be seen as a driver, who is still progressing and settling.
Last season the Briton had a fantastic year and finished P9 on the drivers’ table, eight points behind his erstwhile teammate Carlos Sainz, who was sixth in the standings.
