"It seems he never has luck on his side" - Haas boss Guenther Steiner takes inspiration from George Russell

“It seems he never has luck on his side” – Haas team principal Guenther Steiner is impressed with George Russell and has drawn inspiration from his performance in the Styrian GP.

George Russell failed to score points at the Red Bull Ring last weekend, but it has certainly inspired rivals Haas. Russell qualifying for the race in P11 and was looking to open the points account for Williams, but a mechanical failure undid all the good work.

Guenther Steiner, the Haas team boss, feels this will inspire their entire team to work harder and earn a point or two later in the season.

“I think George did a good job, he qualified 11th – never forget that. He did a very good job and we all know that George is a good driver. He got the car in a good spot set up wise and he performed.

“George was unlucky. Lucky for some other people but he at some stage will have a good result. It seems he never has luck on his side.”

Who will finish P9 in Constructors’ Standings?

Williams and Haas are yet to open their points account, but Williams do look more likely to do, courtesy of Russell’s impressive outings. When asked if his recent performances will make it more difficult for Haas to avoid finishing last, Steiner did not rule out either possibility.

“I wouldn’t say more difficult, it stays the same. For us, I would say later on in the season maybe we can have a good weekend but you need to still work towards this.

“It is not impossible. George had a very good race, a very good qualifying, and a very good race and if he performs like this, it will make it more difficult, yes.”
