"It’s a pretty big challenge"- Sergio Perez admits Max Verstappen is too quick

“It’s a pretty big challenge”- Sergio Perez says that it is tough to compete against ‘mega-quick’ Max Verstappen, who is highly rated.

Sergio Perez is just a few weeks away from making his debut for Red Bull in Formula 1, and the Mexican race driver has committed to overdeliver for the side.

However, speaking on the head to head competition against Max Verstappen, he praised his Dutch teammate. He said that it is too difficult to compete against the swift Verstappen while talking in an episode of the TalkingBull podcast show.

“I think Max is one of the fastest, if not the fastest at the moment in Formula 1,” Perez said. “It’s a pretty big challenge, which is very exciting. You can only measure yourself against them in the same car, so let’s see.

“I will tell you after five races how fast Max is, and I don’t know right now. But I’m sure that he’s a mega quick, mega-talented driver. I look forward to that and to make sure I deliver to the maximum potential.”

Limited scope to adjust.

With COVID-19 still compelling FIA to compromise with its usual calendar, the testing schedule has been shifted from Barcelona to Bahrain and been shrunk to a three-day event.

Thus, Perez has limited time to adjust with Red Bull machinery. However, he has also been spending numerous hours at the Milton Keynes factory, sampling the simulator’s 2021 Red Bull car.

“Yes I have [driven the car in the simulator], and it’s pretty different to what I am used to,” Perez admitted. “But at the end of the day, it’s a Formula 1 car so no excuses.”

On the other hand, Red Bull’s management will be satisfied if he manages to remain close to Verstappen in the competition, and constantly bringing in crucial point for the team against Mercedes.
