"Jobs and wealth that is 10 times higher than the contribution made by the Catalan government" - Spanish GP given green light for F1 2021 Calendar

“Jobs and wealth that is 10 times higher than the contribution made by the Catalan government” – The Spanish Grand Prix for the F1 2021 Calendar has been given the green signal by the Catalan administration.

The F1 2021 Calendar is taking shape with the confirmation of the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Barcelona is also the currently allotted venue for pre-season testing, though it might shift to Bahrain given the postponement of the season-opening Australian GP at Melbourne.

Ramon Tremosa, the Catalan minister of business and knowledge, and also the circuit president, spoke about the massive benefits of Formula 1 to his region. He also suggested that they are looking for a long-term deal for the sport in the city.

“The F1 grand prix in Catalonia is a great world-level event that generates a multiplying effect in terms of GDP growth and the creation of jobs and wealth that is 10 times higher than the contribution made by the Catalan government.

“We will continue working at the government in order to turn the racetrack in Montmeló into a permanent venue for competition because Formula 1 is not an expense, but an investment.

“Catalonia is a motor racing country, with a huge number of followers, international champions and extraordinary infrastructures. [With this agreement] we are securing the presence of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the calendar of the main national and international motorsport competitions for another year.

“The Catalan racetrack will continue working with Formula 1 on a new, long-term agreement during the next season, in order to ensure the continuity of the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya beyond 2021”.
