Lapo Elkann, Known for Slamming Ferrari Hierarchy Once Regarded Lewis Hamilton As “King of the Kings”

Lapo Elkann is a name that is doing rounds all over the news and social media for his recent dig against Ferrari. Despite belonging to the Red Brigade, Elkann has, however, once regarded Lewis Hamilton as the “King of the Kings.”

Elkann, who’s the younger brother of John Elkann, the chairman of Ferrari, has praised the British driver on multiple occasions. From showing his support ahead of the race to posting his photo after the race win, the 45-year-old has been a fan for years.

Notably, the Italian entrepreneur has regarded the 38-year-old as the “Champion of the Champions” and “King of the Kings” after his 2020 Portuguese GP win. With the win, the Silver Arrows ace leapfrogged Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton put himself ahead as the holder of the most F1 GP victories, with 92 race wins. The win in the 12th round of the 2020 F1 season in Portugal also helped the Briton move one step ahead to securing his seventh F1 title.

Elkann voiced his support for Hamilton against racism

The Italian investor has also supported the F1 driver after he was racially attacked. This has come after the news of Nelson Piquet’s attack on Hamilton surfaced on the internet.

The 45-year-old took to Twitter and penned supportive words for the Mercedes star. He wrote that racism is not welcomed anywhere, and he stands with Lewis Hamilton after the jeopardy.

Lapo Elkann also wrote that Piquet should be ashamed as a human being and also as a professional driver. Anyone who’s silent over the racial abuse should also be ashamed of themselves, he added.

Is Hamilton the King of the Kings?

Even if Lapo Elkann holds the British driver as the King of the Kings, it’s not possible from a wider perspective. This is because there are people who hold Schumacher as the greatest-ever driver because of his seven world titles, similar to Hamilton.

Furthermore, a lot of people hold Ayrton Senna as the greatest of all time. Notably, Hamilton himself considers Senna as his inspiration and idol. If not for his untimely death, the Brazilian is believed to have added more titles to his name apart from the three he had.

But, when it comes to statistics, Hamilton is indeed the greatest-ever Formula 1 driver. With seven F1 world titles, the former McLaren star has 103 race wins, 103 pole positions, and 192 podiums under his belt.
