Lewis Hamilton Admits Mercedes’s Inferiority as ‘He Did Not Put Much Effort’ in Fighting Fernando Alonso
Despite putting in valiant efforts against an agile Fernando Alonso in the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has finally conceded defeat. But with his surrender, he also brought out an ugly Mercedes inferiority.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve saw yet another tussle between two of the bigwigs of the sport. As Hamilton and Alonso went wheel to wheel against one another, the crowd roared their approval from the stands.
However, it was the Aston Martin driver who ended up on the winning side in the end as he finished in P2 behind race winner Max Verstappen. With this podium, he made it to six podiums in eight races.
As Alonso is basking in glory with his Aston Martin, things don’t look very good for Mercedes after the recent exposure of their W14 against the AMR23, brought out by Hamilton.
Hamilton reveals Mercedes’ inferiority which led him to concede defeat
Despite attacking the Aston Martin star initially, the Mercedes man in the end had to give up. While the Mercedes and Hamilton fans expected the seven-time world champion to hold on to his position till the very end to repeat P2 from Spain, it wasn’t quite possible.
When asked about it, the British driver opened up about it in the post-race interview. He said as per Deni on Twitter, “I was able to get [Alonso] at the start, but I didn’t put up much of a fight at the end.”

“He was going to pass me one way or another, pace-wise he was so much faster, I think at the time probably close to half a second faster than me. I just started to look after the car and try and make sure I brought back as many points as possible,” concluded the former McLaren star.
Despite inferiority, Hamilton gave chills to Alonso
As the duo started off the Canadian race by going wheel to wheel against one another, they finished the race similarly. Even though the Spaniard had an edge over the Briton, that didn’t stop Hamilton from being a threat to him.
Speaking about it, the 41-year-old said as per Planet F1, “At one point I thought the race was over and second place was good, and then I saw Lewis coming so fast, and the last driver you want to see in your mirrors is Lewis Hamilton when he comes fast!”
All in all, the veterans have been an absolute treat to watch as they went wheel banging against one another, even at this age on more than one occasion this season.
