Lewis Hamilton and George Russell Seeing “Too Bloody Fast” Red Bull Have Dropped the Ultimate 2023 Mercedes Dream

Mercedes F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have recently opened up on rival Red Bull. Considering the current dominance of the defending champions, the driver duo agreed upon their ultimate 2023 Mercedes dream.

As per a video released by F1 Australian Grand Prix, Russell said that the Red Bulls are “too bloody fast.” Sitting beside Hamilton, he said this when he was explaining how one wakes up in the morning and thinks about winning the race or taking the pole position.

The former Williams driver, keeping his feet on the ground said that the Silver Arrows need to go faster in order to go up against the Austrian team. Currently, the W-14s are the third fastest car behind Red Bull’s RB-19 and Aston Martin’s AMR23.

Admittedly, Adrian Newey’s machines are indeed fast as the statistics are proof of that. With superior straight-line speed and a monstrous DRS, the RB-19s managed to pick up three wins and three pole positions out of three races.

Russell wants to be realistic with 2023 goals

Ahead of the 2023 Australian GP, the young British driver was asked about the possibility of a podium at Albert Park in 2023. The question was asked on the pretext of his podium at the same venue in 2022.

Answering this, the 25-year-old said that they need to be realistic. Even though they would love to win, he believes that it is not possible at the moment. Currently, the Silver Arrows are anywhere between P4 to P8 in the grid when it comes to the overall pace of the car.

However, the Albert Park race turned out to be a bittersweet one for the German brigade. As the race concluded, Hamilton finished the race in a fantastic P2, whereas Russell had a DNF.

Can Mercedes be back to being the dominant force they once were?

The Silver Arrows were once a dominant force from the year 2014 to 2020. This was when they thrashed the opponents, clinically. They had the fastest car, they took the most pole positions and in the end, won a humongous amount of races.

To recall, the German team won seven straight driver’s championships as well as seven constructors’ titles in those seven years. To put it into perspective, the Brackley-based team won a staggering 102 races in those seasons.

Reduced to their shadows, the Mercedes AMG F1 team are now struggling to get up to speed with the new regulations. Now, with Aston Martin’s rise up the order, they are in the same league as Ferrari, and miles away from Red Bull. However, can they bring their glory days back? Only time will tell.
