Discussion about Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes has been a strong talking point this season. However, if Hamilton leaves, the obvious question arises: Who will replace him? Charles Leclerc is a name that has popped up in these discussions as Ferrari has often come in the way of the start actually proving himself.
Turns out, Leclerc’s name is more than just whispers. As the news comes from the home ground itself, as the word from Italy is that the move is imminent. With Hamilton yet to put pen to paper, will Leclerc beat him to it?
Charles Leclerc is on track to replace Lewis Hamilton
According to Italian F1 pundit Leo Turrini, the Ferrari star is in conversation with Mercedes for a seat. “That Leclerc is talking to Mercedes is the open secret.”

Stressing that Leclerc knows his potential, and will be able to show his true colors at Mercedes. “In his career so far, Carletto [Leclerc] showed flashes of pure class. He is the first to know that time is passing.”
However, it’s important to note that Leclerc’s contract expires at the end of 2024. Further, there have been a lot of speculations around this topic, so Turrini’s words should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Still, it’s an exciting prospect. With whispers of Hamilton possibly ending his career in Red, it only makes sense that Leclerc has his name thrown into the Mercedes hat.
However, Wolff had made one thing clear, there is only a Plan A: Lewis Hamilton. It’s to be seen if the unbreakable bond between Mercedes and their champion meets its end.
So will Hamilton move to Ferrari?
In an unusual turn of events, Hamilton has been openly critical of his team this season. With cracks showing in the usually happy-go-lucky facade of the partnership, speculations have been through the roof.
However, loyalty has been important to Hamilton; but will the 8th title be the sacrificial lamb? Ferrari is unable to promise that one crucial factor to the driver.
With all the problems with Leclerc, it’s not a pretty package to offer Hamilton. It’s safe to say that these discussions will continue beyond the drivers. Fans, pundits and the paddock alike- the ghost of Hamilton is a looming shadow over the community. Now, with Leclerc seemingly entering the conversation, will it act as a stimulus to that ghastly Mercedes contract?
