“Lewis is the best driver”- Carlos Sainz bothered by Mercedes hiding Lewis Hamilton’s virtuosity
“Lewis is the best driver”- Carlos Sainz bothered that Lewis Hamilton’s greatness often gets hidden by how good Mercedes is.
By winning seven world championships, Lewis Hamilton has registered his name among the greatest world drivers, if not the greatest, in the history of Formula 1.
The main argument against his undisputed claim to the GOAT title is that Mercedes is far too superior to any other team on the grid. Carlos Sainz also feels similarly, though opines Hamilton is the best.
“I think Lewis is the best driver on the grid,” he explained according to the GP Fans. “I think he’s one of the most talented in history. But it is impossible to know because there are only two Mercedes out there to drive, and that is my point.
“It is unfortunate at the moment the sport is such a team and machine-driven while there is so much talent on the grid right now. All drivers could be within three-tenths of each other in a qualifying lap, and then we are fighting for two seconds from the beginning to the end of the grid.”
Pulling the last touch is difficult.
Carlos Sainz then mentioned that he is not concerned about settling in the new Ferrari, despite having a day and a half to test the new car in Bahrain.
“It’s not too difficult as a Formula 1 driver to be quick with a car you don’t know,” he added. “What is difficult is to extract the last tenth, the last two-tenths of the car and I think that is what Lewis is particularly good at.”
Though Sainz has given his first on-track performance for Ferrari at Fiorano, Charles Leclerc looked satisfied with his performance. According to Monegasque race driver, Sainz’s experience is enough to guide him through the odd time in Ferrari, and he doesn’t need his counsel.
