Max Verstappen Sees Threat to Glorious Undefeated Run by Red Bull as Biggest Challenge of the Season Approaches Them

Max Verstappen scripted history at the Italian Grand Prix this past weekend following his win at Monza. The Dutchman’s win at the Temple of Speed was his twelfth victory of the season and tenth in a row. Moreover, the 25-year-old‘s win ensured that Red Bull extended their undefeated streak this season to 14. Although the Milton Keynes outfit looks unbeatable now, Verstappen expects tougher challenges.

Red Bull’s run has been historic as they are the first team to register 15 wins in a row (1 last season). McLaren previously held this record when they registered 11 consecutive victories in 1988.

However, there are concerns that Red Bull’s record-breaking run may end in Singapore. During his press conference, Verstappen explained why he believes the Marina Bay Street Circuit race will not be easy for them to win.

Max Verstappen expects Singapore to be more difficult than Italy

Despite Red Bull’s stunning domination this season, the Italian Grand Prix was not the easiest for them. Unlike most previous races, Max Verstappen failed to grab the pole and had to win the race the hard way.

Moreover, it took the Dutchman a few laps to get past Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who showed incredible grit to stay ahead. After having worked much harder than the previous races to get the win at Monza, Verstappen expects the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix to be an even more challenging race to win.

When asked how he sees the upcoming race in Singapore, Verstappen replied, “A little bit more difficult, I think for us. But we’ll see. We’ll do our best, and of course, we’ll try to go in there and win it again. But it’s not, let’s say, going to be the strongest weekend for us“.

Furthermore, it is not just Verstappen who expects the Singapore GP to be a more difficult race for Red Bull. The team’s advisor, Helmut Marko, has also stated in various interviews that the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit could be tricky for the team.

Marko expects Verstappen to face a tough challenge in Singapore

In a recent interview with the Telegraaf, Helmut Marko gave his take on what might stop Red Bull from extending their historic run. He began his comments by explaining how only a technical problem or a crash can hinder them from winning this season. However, he admitted that the upcoming race at Singapore could prove tricky because of Max Verstappen’s history at the circuit.

Since the Dutchman has never won at Singapore, Marko added, “If he can win there too, I am optimistic that we can win the rest of the races as well.” Therefore, all eyes will now be on the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, which takes place from September 15 to 17.
