Verstappen has an outstanding start to the 2023 season

Max Verstappen seems to have carried on his fantastic form from last season as he has had a dream start to the 2023 season. The Dutchman has already won three of the first five races of the new campaign and finished second in the two races he did not win.

Consequently of these results, he has scored 119 points and leads the championship by 14 points from his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. Among all of Verstappen’s performances this season, perhaps the one he produced in Miami last weekend was the best of them.

Despite having made an error in qualifying that resulted in him starting the main race all the way back in ninth, the 25-year-old more than made up for it. Verstappen made a cautious race start to stay out of trouble before making some brilliant moves to overtake his rivals one by one.

Even though Red Bull’s straight-line speed definitely played a huge part in helping him to overtake his rivals, the strategy he pulled off to beat his teammate was impeccable. Having started on the hards, the Dutchman managed his tires in the first stint brilliantly as he built enough of a gap that he almost had a pit-stop advantage in his hand.

Hence, when he eventually pitted for the softer compound, he rejoined the race just a few seconds behind Perez. And with fresher and faster tires, he was able to get past the Mexican with ease to clinch his third win of the season.
