Max Verstappen to Mercedes: Speculation heats up as Red Bull driver quips he doesn't "know what Lewis is going to do"

Max Verstappen to Mercedes: Speculation heats up as Red Bull driver hints at Mercedes interest by claiming he is unaware of the Lewis Hamilton retirement plans.

After Aryton Senna and Alain Prost, we could potentially see a Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen team-up next season. This after the latter’s contract allows him to move to Mercedes if Red Bull doesn’t challenge for the title this season. But, as per Crash.net, Verstappen is unbothered by his plans. Only if this could be really true.

“At the end of the day, I don’t know what Lewis is going to do. I’m just focused on myself and focused on this year and trying to make that a success. So early in the season with basically just a shakedown, I’m not thinking about those sort of things at this stage.”

Max Verstappen also unbothered by Honda pulling out

Verstappen could easily be given the moniker of the “Unbothered One”. The Dutchman is almost unconcerned by Red Bull taking over Honda’s PU after the latter takes a sabbatical from F1 after this season.

Verstappen is yet to win a title, all down to Hamilton dominating with his Merc. His ‘unbothered’ detached person might help him give a solid fight to the reigning champion this term.

“No, it doesn’t change anything for me. It’s exciting, but at the same time I’m not too focused on it at the moment. We are living in the moment, trying to have a good season first of all this year and the smart people in the background will handle those kinds of things with the engine.

“It’s of course very important that it happened and that it was signed off. But that’s it. I’m very relaxed, very calm. I just want to focus on this year. That’s for me very important. It’s nice to have in the background that it’s sorted.”
