Mercedes decides to not renew Valtteri Bottas contract: Sources

Mercedes is set to break ties with Valtteri Bottas as the Brackley based team is set to pair Lewis Hamilton with George Russell.

The sources are now heavily speculating Valtteri Bottas’ exit from Mercedes by the end of this year, with the Brackley based team not ready to renew his contract.

According to a report by the SkySports F1, which they published on Instagram have revealed that Bottas is no longer a requirement for Mercedes and could be replaced by George Russell.

“Bottas-Mercedes, moving towards non-renewal of contract Beyond the anonymous race in Azerbaijan, the future of the Finnish driver seems marked: Mercedes should not renew his contract for the next season. Russell is ready,” Google translation of the text in the Instagram post above.

This speculation comes after Russell demanded his future to be sorted before the Belgian Grand Prix, as he is into the third season of his F1 career and wouldn’t want an uncertainty that happened earlier this year.

Toto Wolff promised to solve it soon.

Apart from being a Mercedes team principal, Wolff is also a manager to Russell and largely monitors his professional commitments in F1. He had generated a spot for him in Williams to let him develop before being promoted to Mercedes.

But now his stay in Williams is redundant, with no signs of progress, so it is fair for Russell to seek answers early. Meanwhile, Wolff realizes Russell’s importance in Mercedes and may give him the Mercedes spot in 2022.

Nevertheless, Wolff has admitted the gravity of the situation and declared that there would be a confirmed lineup of Mercedes for 2022 before January. So, from here, it could be anything for Russell and his dream to represent Mercedes.
