Michael Schumacher Legacy in Germany Has Tumbled Down Claims Ex-Mercedes Boss

Michael Schumacher is one of the greatest F1 drivers ever and he dominated motorsport in the 90s and early 2000s.

Schumacher, at the time was adored by Germans and he still is. But during the years of his domination, the Schumacher name was synonymous with F1 to a German.

The German legend won 7-championship titles making history with Ferrari and made a legacy for many upcoming drivers to follow.

It is interesting how Germany is considered as the hub of automobiles and yet the reputation of the sport has gone way down in the country. Currently, there are no Grands Prix in Germany, no viable title contender and no major Germany-based team.

Ex-Mercedes boss thinks F1 enthusiasts should be ashamed

Ex Mercedes boss Norbert Haug recalled the time when there were German world champions like on an assembly line. After Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel dominated the sport in the early 2010s, followed by Nico Rosberg’s win 2016 with Mercedes.

Even Mercedes, as a constructor dominated the sport in the past decade with 8 back to back titles yet there hasn’t been a race in Germany in a long time.

Haug recalled that at the end of the 90s and in the 2000s there were two F1 races in Germany per year. The stands were filled with 100,000 spectators and even the German TV was watched by about 12 Million people. Now it has gone down to 3 Million.

He opined that F1 has regressed into a tragedy in Gemany and every motorsport enthhusiast can only be ashamed of himself.

Mick Schumacher is Germany’s best hope

Mick got sacked from the Haas F1 team at the end of the 2022 season and now he has found himself in the role of a reserve driver with the Silver Arrows.

Haug believes that Mick getting sacked was a real bad luck but he did well to sign a deal with Mercedes. If Mick does a good job in Mercedes he would have a good chance in the future.

So he remains Germany’s best hope of future F1 star.
