For those unaware, there were unconfirmed reports of Perez heading back to Mexico before the British GP. The trip was allegedly to request Slim to sponsor him for a seat in the 2021 Racing Point. This comes after reports of Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin (formerly Racing Point) being a done deal, replacing Perez. Perez rubbished these rumors, with Rachel Brookes tweeting about it on her handle.
“Nice chat with @SChecoPerez who replied “b***s**t” when I asked if the stories about him meeting Carlos Slim in Mexico when he visited his mum, are true. He also said team have shown no indication that he isn’t racing with them next year and that’s what he expects to happen.”
There are suggestions that the Mexican caught the virus while on the trip to Mexico. True or not, it did allow Nico Hulkenberg to make a sensational comeback to F1, with the German putting in credible performances.

Determined to continue with Racing Point/ Aston Martin
Perez also spoke on the Vettel reports, sounding determined that he is not to going make way for the multiple-world champion. He also suggested Racing Point have given an assurance that he is to race for them in 2021. If that is true, then it is unlikely Lance Stroll will make way, considering his Dad is Aston Martin’s promoter.
“I’m not making way either! I hope not.”
“At the moment everything is looking as if we’re going to carry on with the team. So we’ll see. The feedback I’ve got from the team is we are going to carry on.”
