"Red Bull is the first challenger"- Sebastian Vettel on Aston Martin's 2021 aspirations

“Red Bull is the first challenger”- Sebastian Vettel shares Aston Martins aspirations for 2021, the toughest spot to get this year.

Mercedes and Red Bull are in a league of their own, and the team at P3 at the end of the season would be content with its achievement. Last season also, it was a three-way contest between McLaren, Racing Point and Renault.

And the Woking-based team managed to fetch it in the latter part of the season. Snubbing Racing Point for the spot by a marginal difference. Under the new name- Aston Martin under the charge of Sebastian Vettel, the same contingent is eyeing for the 3rd spot.

During the presentation of AMR21, Vettel revealed Aston Martin’s aspirations, where he revealed that they would be aiming to challenge Red Bull and would be satisfied at the spot just behind them.

“There are things I need to learn. On the other hand, I am well positioned with my way of working and my methodology and can bring a lot to the team,” said Vettel to Auto Motor und Sport.

“The role of favourite has been assigned to Mercedes. Red Bull is the first challenger. Hopefully, we will come right behind. We don’t just want to drive in this position; we want to get closer to the top.”

“The biggest goal is, first of all, to settle down, find my way in the team and have fun. At this point, we are all very euphoric. Let’s see what it looks like when the car is on track.”

Everybody is aiming for P3.

This year, with Aston Martin, at least forty percent of the grid aims to be on the P3 spot. McLaren, which finished at P3 in 2020, aims to reduce the gap against Mercedes and Red Bull.

Meanwhile, Ferrari is mapping its revival and fancies the P3 position before they go all out for the title challenge in 2022. Whereas Alpine, the re-branded version of Renault, is also aiming for P3 but would also be happy to settle with a P4.
