Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin is a done deal, the German will replace Mexican driver Sergio Perez for F1 2021 Season

The Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin rumors have gone off the roof, but Sergio Perez has calmly responded by saying he has a long-term contract.

The Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin move seems like a distinct possibility. This after reports from Germany claimed that the current Ferrari driver has agreed to race for Aston Martin next season onward. According to ESPN Mexico, the announcement date could be as early August 2nd.

Sergio Perez determined to stay at Aston Martin

But Sergio Perez declined to comment on these links, instead focusing on the fact he is the current Racing Point/ Aston Martin driver.

He emphasised on how he has a long-term contract with the team and that nothing has changed as far as he is concerned.

“I’m with the team as far as I know. I have a contract.”

“The answer to these questions, it will only be time. We will see what happens in the next weeks.”

When pressed further on his future with Aston Martin, amid reports of Vettel replacing him, he remained coy. But, he did acknowledge the fact that Formula 1 can be a fickle sport, where drivers can never quite be certain about their future.

“In Formula 1 you never know. Until you start the race, you don’t know if you are racing. This is how things are.”

“At the moment they are just rumors. Nothing more to add on my side other than we have a contract in place.”

“I’ve been in Formula 1 for 10 years so I’m used to this stuff.”

According to ESPN Mexico, Perez’s agent Julian Jacobi has been in talks with different teams to secure a F1 seat for his client. The most likely options seem to be Haas or Alfa Romeo, if he is asked to make way for Vettel.

Will Lance Stroll make way for Sebastian Vettel?

The Canadian Lance Stroll, on the other hand, has the blessings of his dad Lawrence Stroll. The latter is the main investor in Aston Martin, ever since he took over the Force India consortium from Vijay Mallya.

Lawrence has big plans in store for Aston Martin, and is naturally looking to get in the legendary Vettel to lead the way. Will Lawrence sacrifice his son Lance for his lofty ambitions? Whatever it might be, Lance is not willing to budge an inch.

The young Racing Point driver spoke about the ‘silly season’ can sometimes go into overdrive with these rumors and that he is completely focussed on doing well for the team.

“I’m determined to stay here!”

“The speculation is part of the circus, it’s all part of the silly season, rumours and so on. It is all expected, and part of the fun.”

He also spoke about how Racing Point have improved this season, and is looking forward to the current season.

“We’re looking really competitive at the moment, so I’m sure there will be a lot of talk about. We’ll just have to see what happens down the line.”
