Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes: “If I had the chance to drive a Mercedes myself, I wouldn’t say no”
Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes: The quadruple F1 champion has revealed that if Mercedes come calling in the future, he wouldn’t say no to it.
Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin might be a done deal now, but it an open secret that the German legend was indeed considering a ‘sebbatical’ after Ferrari decided to show him the door after this season. The conversations between him and ‘friends’ Lawrence Stroll and Otmar Szafnauer started in the paddock, with intriguing incidents of bumping into Stroll, and being spotted in the parking lot with Szafnauer.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, the 33-year-old Vettel was at his candid best – “I thought about ending my career, but I still have something to give the sport and Aston Martin’s offer came along at the right time. I have known Lawrence Stroll and Otmar Szafnauer for a long time. They approached me in the paddock about a possible switch and that’s how the conversations between us started. I don’t have to make it a secret.”

Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes a distinct possibility?
When asked if he would like to drive the Mercedes if offered, he answered in the affirmative. He is one of the greatest-ever, and it would only be natural if he drove one of the greatest F1 cars to date. A Vettel vs Hamilton intra-team battle sounds exciting, but it doesn’t seem to be a possibility anymore, with both drivers in their 30s.
“If I had the chance to drive a Mercedes myself, I wouldn’t say no.”
“At the moment, no driver would say no to Mercedes and I would certainly be ready to take on Lewis. You’d have to ask him as well, but I think he would also like to be on a team with me. There is a lot of respect between us.”
