Sebastian Vettel Was Once Rooting Against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid for the Champions League Final

Sebastian Vettel has never hidden his love for Football on any occasion. He has even appeared in multiple charity matches and scored in them. He also loves to follow the game and reportedly is a fan of Bundesliga side Frankfurt.

Once, he was even doing the keep-ups with his idol Michael Schumacher during one of the race of champions’ editions. Thus, his love for the game is open, and if not for an F1 driver, he could have started with football as a career.

Nevertheless, he had a decorated career in motorsport, where he won four championships and 53 races. These statistics make him the fourth most successful F1 driver ever. Well, he surely wouldn’t trade this career for any other sport. But still, he’s passionate about Football.

Vettel was rooting against Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid is probably the greatest side of the champions league. The Spanish side knows how to ace that tournament and is miles ahead in terms of glory in that tournament compared to any other European club.

With so much success, the non-followers start to root for the underdogs. That happened in Vettel’s case before the 2018 champions league final between Real Madrid and Liverpool. Under Cristiano Ronaldo, Los Blancos was a force to reckon with in that competition.

They were going for their three-peat under him and had won another title right before Barcelona won in 2015. Thus, they won three titles in four years before clashing with Liverpool. Before the finale, As per the Bild, Vettel was rooting for the English side.

Apart from seeing an end to Real Madrid’s dominance, Vettel was also rooting for his compatriot and Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp. However, in the end, the Kopites faced a thrashing and lost the match by 4-1, allowing their opponents to have their three-peat. “Of course, I would have preferred if Liverpool had won. It’s a pity,” said Vettel.

Vettel played with Ronaldo

As mentioned above, Vettel has appeared in several charity games before. But when Ronaldo was at Juventus, he got the opportunity to play with the German race driver.

Apparently, Vettel, Charles Leclerc, Antonio Giovinazzi and Mick Schumacher played on Ronaldo’s team. The game was reportedly played to raise money for cancer research.

The four-time world champion even scored a goal contributing to Ronaldo’s winning goal to ensure their side’s victory against Gianluigi Buffon’s team.
