Sergio Perez Coronavirus: Mexican racer in self-isolation after inconclusive test result

Sergio Perez Coronavirus: Mexican racer placed in self-isolation after the initial round of tests came out to be inconclusive, Racing Point awaits 2nd test.

Racing Point is in danger of losing their star driver Sergio Perez for British GP, as the first round of Covid-19 tests came out to be inconclusive for him.

Perez was set to attend Thursday’s press conference ahead of Grand Prix in Silverstone Circuit, but Racing Point only sent his teammate Lance Stroll.

Later it was announced by the conference MC that Perez was absent from the event as his test results were inconclusive. Therefore, he is self-isolating himself until 2nd test results come out.

A spokesman for Racing Point said there was no further information beyond the FIA’s comment. “Checo is not at the circuit today following an inconclusive test result, he is self-isolating awaiting the results of a re-test.” spokesperson said.

What happens if Sergio Perez coronavirus test is positive?

If Perez tests positive, Formula 1 will continue to go on as emphasized continuously by the bosses of F1 since the start of the revised season. However, Racing Point will have to call up Mercedes’ reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez, as per agreement with the team.

Gutierrez last raced in F1 in 2016 for Haas, he shares Mercedes’ reserve driving spot with Stoffel Vandoorne, who has more recent grand Prix experience making his last experience in Abu Dhabi 2018.

However, Vandoorne is not available for Silverstone, as he prepares for the final 6 Formula-E races in Berlin, taking across a Bubble of 9 days starting from next Wednesday.
