Sergio Perez Requests Team To Avoid Australian GP Issues As He Fends Off Max Verstappen

Sergio Perez, the ‘King of Baku’ has once again managed to come out against all odds to take the victory in Azerbaijan Grand Prix. As he managed to keep his teammate Max Verstappen behind, he requested his team to avoid Australian GP mishaps to keep his charge on.

As Perez crossed the finish line, he immediately got emotional as he opened up on his win. “Well done guys, we dominated this weekend,” said the Mexican. He then added, “We just have to sort out the issues, we cannot have the issues like Melbourne.”

The Red Bull star who wants to win the world championship with Red Bull further asserted, “We need to fight guys,” and concluded with, “VAMOS!” in the end. Admittedly, Perez was talking about the issue he had in Melbourne, which knocked him out of Q1 in Australia.

The 33-year-old, who started from P3, defied all odds to repeat his Baku victory. However, Checo banked heavily on the strategic blunder by Red Bull on Verstappen which opened the door for him to claim the victory.

Sergio Perez reacted to his race victory

The Mexican seemed very happy about his race win in Baku as he revealed his feelings in the post-race interview. Despite starting on P3, Perez leapfrogged the pole sitter Charles Leclerc, thanks to the monstrous DRS the RB-19 has. And then it was all down to Red Bull’s strategy that gave him the upper hand against the defending champion.

The 33-year-old went on to talk about the moves he made against the Dutchman. He said that he managed to stay on the DRS train and keep the pressure on his teammate. Furthermore, he was happy to have kept his teammate under control when Verstappen began to push.

Perez, the street fighter

The Red Bull star is regarded as one of the best drivers in the world when it comes to street circuits. From having razor blade precision to impeccable capabilities to nurse his tires at high speed, the Mexican can well be regarded as the undisputed king of the streets.

Alone in the 2023 F1 season, the Mexican star has managed to pick up two wins. Earlier in the season he won the race in Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

With the Azerbaijan GP win, Perez has won a total of six races, five of which were on street circuits. The 33-year-old claimed his maiden win in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, followed by a win in Azerbaijan in 2021, Monaco and Singapore in 2022, and Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan again in 2023.
