"Sounding board for ideas": Williams want Jenson Button to reveal his 'war stories' in role as senior advisor

“Sounding board for ideas”: Williams Racing bosses Josh Capito and Simon Roberts want Jenson Button to reveal his ‘war stories’ to George Russell and Nicholas Latifi in his role as a senior advisor this season.

Jenson Button, the 2009 F1 champion, made his debut in the sport with Williams. And, as such, it was only natural when it was announced that the Brit is returning to the team as an advisor.

Jenson Button to share war stories with Williams Racing

Team principal Simon Roberts is very excited to have him on board and is looking forward to learning from him, for himself, and for his team. He also is eager to have Button share his “war stories” with George Russell and Nicholas Latifi.

“Obviously, we have been talking to him and he is kind of supporting us in many ways, from an overall F1 business point of view and supporting the board and senior management team. But once we get racing and he gets a little bit of time off, he can come and help. His ex-race engineer [Dave Robson] is with us so there is a really good relationship.

“So we are really looking forward to getting him into the garage, get some detail and get him doing what he does best, just talking to us, being a sounding board for ideas and getting the best out of his experience. I am sure the drivers will get to hear some good stuff from him and a few war stories along the way as well.”

Button also has tremendous experience in motorsport in general, competing in Super GT, WEC, and the Baja 1000. He is also a team owner in the British GT and the new Extreme E championship.
