Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes his side currently has a ‘luxury problem’ that they could only dream about. The Briton’s remarks come after Red Bull has had a dominating start to the 2023 season.
Red Bull have won all four opening races, with both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez winning two each. Since it seems that only the two Red Bull teammates will fight this year’s Drivers’ Championship, Horner is delighted with the problem that his team currently faces.
When asked by the interviewer on the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast if Red Bull has a good problem on their hands with their two drivers fighting for the championship, Horner replied, “This is the problem you dream about having. This is a luxury problem“.
The 49-year-old then went on to add some caution by stating that it is still too early in the season to rule out their competitors. Horner believes that Red Bull has to stay on their toes at all times as a significant part of the season is still left for their rivals to catch up.
Christian Horner says Red Bull will allow their drivers to race
On the same podcast, Christian Horner revealed that Red Bull will allow Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to race each other in their championship fight provided they keep their battles ‘tidy’. The 49-year-old added that both their drivers need to respect the fact that they are not just fighting for themselves but for the entire team, and hence, they can only race each other provided they do not cross the line.
Speaking of how the championship battle between Verstappen and Perez has so far panned out, Horner admitted that there have been no problems for the team so far and that they have instead enjoyed their two drivers fighting it out. He then concluded his remarks by stating that if the two carried on in this fashion, then they could race each other for the rest of the campaign.

Verstappen is marginally ahead of Perez in the championship
Max Verstappen heads into this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix with just a six-point lead in the championship over his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. When it comes to results, there is little to separate the two as both have won two races each.
Perez’s outstanding performance at last weekend’s Grand Prix in Baku proved that he is still very much in the title fight and that he is ready to take Verstappen to the limit this season. The Mexican will now hope to carry forward his momentum into this weekend’s Miami GP, knowing that a win could help him get the lead in the championship for the first time in his career.
