“Vulnerable” Lewis Hamilton Seeking Escape From Toto Wolff as Mercedes Falls Apart

Lewis Hamilton is reportedly close to signing a new deal with Mercedes that will extend his 10-year stay with the team beyond 2023. However, according to Business F1the seven-time world champion is tired of his time in Brackley and desperately wants to escape from Toto Wolff and Mercedes’ grasp.

Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013, as a former world champion. He was always considered to be among the best in F1, but his time with the Silver Arrows altered the course of history. Between 2014 and 2020, Hamilton won six world championships and guided Mercedes to eight constructors’ titles. Since 2022, however, things have been difficult.

Mercedes isn’t the strongest team in F1 anymore. This frustrates Hamilton immensely, especially since he is desperate to win his eighth title. As his current contract runs down, most people remain sure about the Briton renewing his deal. Business F1, however, reports that Hamilton is very reluctant.

Lewis Hamilton is fearful of Toto Wolff losing grasp on Mercedes

In the past, Business F1 spoke about how the Mercedes employees aren’t happy with Wolff in charge. Ever since Niki Lauda’s passing away, the leadership quality in Mercedes has been on a downward slump. The latest reports point towards Lewis Hamilton feeling “vulnerable” and “tired” at the German team.

Back when he extended his deal with Mercedes in 2021, they were the fastest car. At 36 years old, Hamilton could not have gone to a better team than Mercedes. Toto Wolff, however, being the businessman he is, took advantage of this while negotiating with Hamilton.

Unfortunately for Wolff, his car isn’t as fast as it was three years ago. This means that he can’t control Hamilton like he used to and the latter is tired of driving in a sub-par car. His relationship with Wolff, has deteriorated severely too, even though the Austrian insists that is not the case.

Hamilton will definitely leave Mercedes if he has somewhere to go

The only thing keeping Hamilton at Mercedes was the car’s dominance. Now that they aren’t winning races consistently anymore, the 38-year-old can explore his options. According to the beforementioned reports, Ferrari is a team that is seriously considering signing Hamilton.

Hamilton, who always dreamed of driving for Ferrari is also contemplating making the move for the first time-ever in his career. On the other hand, from a sporting point of view, the Maranello-based outfit seems to be “comfortable” with the pairing of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. This could make things difficult for Hamilton.

Even though the reports of Wolff and Hamilton beefing are growing, it is most likely that the Stevenage-born driver will renew his deal.
