"“We just want to make a step"- Lando Norris dismisses need for regular podiums

“We just want to make a step”- Lando Norris dismisses the requirement for constant podiums and opts for minor improvements.

Lando Norris with McLaren has progressed immensely, meanwhile, the team which struggled back in 2018, also managed to revive itself to an impressive extent.

In 2020, they finished P3 on the table, yet with every team progressing this year, repeating the same feat will be tough, considering they were separated by Racing Point by a marginal difference.

When asked about McLaren achieving constant podiums, Norris rejects the need for it, and class that it is not even realistic as his team needs more structural improvements.

“Oh, that’s too much. Last year, more than ever for some reason, teams were able to excel at certain stages of the season and at certain tracks. It proves how much different car philosophies work in different types of races and conditions,” he said.

“The car itself, and everything we have to do as a team and as McLaren, still have to be improved, from the pit stops to how we design things and the whole philosophy of the car, there needs to be a constant improvement.”

Slow progress is required.

The team will enter on the grid with Mercedes power unit, but Norris again clarifies that there need to be other changes as well, and adjusting the car per Mercedes’ engine is also a tough job.

“The car itself, and everything we have to do as a team and as McLaren, still have to be improved, from the pit stops to how we design things and the whole philosophy of the car, there needs to be a constant improvement.”

“We just want to make a step where we can say we’re very confident every weekend, that we can say we’re going to be the fourth-best team, or maybe the third-best team,” he said.
