"We need Ferrari in the fight"– Mercedes wants Ferrari to soon escalate its contention for championship

“We need Ferrari in the fight”– Mercedes insists Ferrari to escalate its contention for the championship in the forthcoming seasons.

Ferrari has largely challenged Mercedes in the hybrid era, and only in recent years, Red Bull has escalated its attempts and near to defeat Mercedes in the title fight.

On the other hand, Ferrari has taken a downward spiral from 2020 onwards, and finished P6 in the constructors’ championship that year. And now, they are on the road to recovery.

But Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff wants Ferrari to soon increase its contention for the championship and add excitement in the following years.

“We need Ferrari in the fight,” Wolff said. “This [2022] needs to be a Championship where there are four or five teams that can win, that compete against each other, and Ferrari needs to be right there.

“They have a good driver line-up. They have recovered from last year and I expect them to be right there next year with us – hopefully – Red Bull, McLaren, Aston Martin and Alpine and whoever because that will make the championships just so much more interesting for the spectators,” he added.

Mercedes made a step forward.

Further, Mercedes revealed that they had made a step forward in the championship fight after upgrading before Silverstone, which they earlier halted.

“In terms of aerodynamic development, we stopped a long time ago,” the Austrian said. “The last development stopped in spring and the last upgrade that was then produced we brought to Silverstone, and that upgrade functions. We have made a step forward,” he added.

Mercedes would be returning to F1’s remaining season in Belgium, as the competition is set to resume after a four-week-long break, and they would need to vie against Red Bull to maintain its lead, which they gained in Hungary.
