Why Alex Albon has raised over $120,000 in charity to single orphanage in Thailand

Over the last year, Alex Albon has made frequent trips to Thailand whenever F1 took its course to the east. The Williams driver has particularly made a point of visiting the Wat Sakraeo orphanage whenever he is in his native land.

He regularly posts about the place and has interacted with the kids over there. Recently, he also posted about $120,000 he raised for charity by auctioning his F1 helmet that was designed by the kids at Wat Sakraeo.

He revealed that the money will be used in redeveloping the orphanage premises. Moreover, a sports hall will also be restored which is planned to be used for multiple activities.

Why Alex Albon only donates at Wat Sakraeo

While Albon executes some charities from his own collection to race funds for this organization. Why is he dedicated only to this particular organization? He could have done it with other Thai organizations too or scattered his contributions to several NGOs.

However, there is a personal connection to Albon doing this for Wat Sakraeo. The former Williams boss Jos Capito’s brother Volker Capito has been living in Bangkok since the early 2000s and has made his life mission to help the orphan kids at Wat Sakraeo by founding the Iceman charity.

Albon took the opportunity before the 2022 Australian Grand Prix to visit the children at the orphanage and see Volker’s hard work. In the end, the visit turned out to be life-changing, and now Albon is all in for helping the kids over there.

Australia haul gave attention to his cause

Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Albon reached Melbourne with his hair dyed red but shabbily. The Thai-born F1 driver revealed that he got his hair coloured by the kids at the orphanage.

He points scored in Imola, seven positions gained in Imola and another top-10 finish in Miami, his red hair proved to be lucky. Thus, drawing the media’s attention to his work at Wat Sakraeo.

Moreover, the red hair further strengthened the money inflow for the orphanage. Williams released a Power Up tee with Albon’s face minimalized and his red hair. With every sale, $6 was contributed to Wat Sakraeo.
