Alex Albon raises $119,600 for charity by selling helmet that was designed by orphanage children

In the recent past, Alex Albon has made sure that he goes to his native land Thailand once a year at least. The Williams driver was there before the Australian Grand Prix.

And now, he went there again ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. Considering its proximity to Singapore, it would have been easy for him to scooch a detour in his hectic travelling plans.

The Thai-born F1 driver reportedly visited an orphanage during his short trip to Thailand. From thereon, Albon reached Marina Bay and continued with his Grand Prix weekend. But he did something great for the kids at the orphanage.

Alex Albon raised $119,600 for orphanage kids

On Tuesday, Albon took his Twitter to inform his followers that he had put his Singapore GP helmet on an auction. The helmet designed by the orphanage kids and other donations had fetched $119,600 for the kids.

The whole amount will be used for redeveloping the orphanage premises and the essential work that needs to be done. He also declared that the sports hall would also be restored.

He informs that the hall will be used for football, basketball and badminton. Apart from sports, the hall will also be used for assemblies, theatre and music. Overall, according to him, it will be a community space.

Second year at F1

Albon re-entered F1’s starting grid with Williams. Before that, he was the reserve driver at Red Bull after he lost his position to Sergio Perez in 2021.

His first few races with Williams gave some promising signs. But from thereon, there hasn’t been much success in his hands. He ended up with four points this season, only two points above his now former teammate Nicholas Latifi, that limited him till P19 in the standings.

He will be continuing with Wantage based team for the 2023 season. He will be joined by Logan Sargeant as his teammate, who will be debuting in F1 next year.
