Former Liverpool star striker claims to be sad in a message to Liverpool fans

Former Liverpool star striker Luis Suarez claims that he is sad that he infuriated several Liverpool fans as he celebrated after scoring against them.

Liverpool’s former star striker Luis Suarez, who gained prominence at the Anfield has expressed his guilt for celebrating a goal which he scored against his former side in the Champions League semi-final while playing for Barcelona.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “I know some Liverpool supporters were angry with me because I celebrated a goal against Liverpool here in Camp Nou [last season] and for that I am so sad.

“I accept that and I say that hopefully, they understand my situation: we were playing at home and in the Champions League semi-final.” he further said.

Barcelona won that match by 3-0, Suarez was the player who opened the score in the tie and his immediate celebration caused an outrage by Liverpool fans, who never expected this from their beloved former player.

Despite this and the 3-goal deficit, Liverpool had the last laugh, as in the reverse fixture, the Reds toppled the Catalans by scoring 4 goals past them and qualifying to the finale of the tournament on aggregate.

Liverpool went onto win the Champions League title after beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the finale. The Merseyside club on Thursday sealed the Premier League title after Chelsea defeated second-placed Manchester City.

The league title victory of Liverpool would have brought joy to Suarez, who played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s pursuit for the Premier League in 2013/14, but the Reds failed to seal the title in the final matchday of the league.

But Suarez was remembered for his monstrous performances and till date considered to be one of the best individual performances in the history of the league.
