Frenkie De Jong to Barcelona

Frenkie De Jong will decide his future in the forthcoming week.

Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong has reportedly said that he would be leaving the Dutch club at the end of the season. The 21-year-old has been linked with Barcelona over the last few months after a great spell with his club and country.

The Dutch International is one of the greatest young prospects available at stake right now, by taking up the field on 63 occasions for his club and has won 5 caps for his country at the age of 21.

With plenty of time and future ahead of him, the Dutch midfielder is wanted by a host clubs in Europe including Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, and Manchester City. The amount required to lure him for Johan Cryuff Arena is 75 million euros. With these three European heavyweights interested on his signature, there is no doubt that they would be looking for an auction in the summer transfer window.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reported that the midfielder will decide his next destination in the upcoming week, with various reports strongly linking him with the Catalans over a potential transfer.

Given his technical quality, there is no doubt that he would suit Barcelona’s style of player brilliantly, but with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Artur Melo, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal, it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the summer.

The reigning La Liga Champions are also linked with the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot who has refused to put pen to paper and his contract expires in the summer. Even though Barcelona denied over any agreement reach, there is certainly an interest on the French midfielder.

On the other hand, the Spanish publication Sport report that Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint Germain are said to be closing in on for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl. Even though nothing is official yet, it is believed to be that the German midfielder could be a possible alternative to Frenkie De Jong.

During a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola iterated that Manchester City are looking at three or four midfielders who could act as a replacement for Fernandinho. The Brazilian would turn 34 at the end of the season.

There is certainly a huge battle between these three for Frenkie De Jong. Even though reports read that Paris Saint Germain were closing in on the midfielder, there is no doubt that Barcelona and Manchester United cannot be ruled out entirely.
