Ganguly on Dhoni's ODI spot

Ganguly on Dhoni’s ODI spot: The former captain advocated for Dhoni to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has lent his support behind another former captain and current wicket-keeper batsman in Mahendra Singh Dhoni regarding his place in the Indian ODI side for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

There is no hiding to the fact that Dhoni is in the middle of a lean patch in international cricket. The 37-year old has struggled to find form this year. As a result, has allured several criticism towards his side.

Dhoni is known for his ability to answer his critics back in style for it is something which he has done in the past. The team management and chiefly his fans would be hoping for that moment to come soon.

During the first ODI of the ongoing five-match series, Ganguly was present at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, witnessing the first ever ODI in that stadium.

Speaking to PTI during the match, Ganguly was quoted, “I don’t know what combination they are thinking at. But I’m sure he [Dhoni] will do well in the World Cup. It’s [against West Indies] a big series for him.”

Dhoni’s numbers this year might not have been as good as earlier years but his overall record still ranks him among the best in the business. Even Ganguly cited the same as the reason behind persisting with him.

“His overall record is very good. It all depends how the players perform going ahead to the World Cup. It’s about scoring runs. That’s why Pant has been given a chance,” he said.

The next year’s World Cup will comprise of just 10 teams where each team will play one another in the league stage. Ganguly also spoke about the competitive nature of the upcoming World Cup.

“India are a good ODI side. This World Cup will be worth watching. All teams play all and the best four go. It will be a competitive one,” he added.

When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
