MS Dhoni’s presence won’t give batting depth: Former Indian cricketer sounded pretty unconvinced with India’s World Cup playing XI.
The recently concluded five-match ODI series against Australia was India’s last chance of zeroing in on their preferred combination ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Other than losing the series 2-3, India also failed miserably at addressing the squad-related issues which were prevailing before the series.

A sorted India captain in Virat Kohli had laid emphasis on how India have nearly found the best combination ahead of the showpiece event and also mentioned there is only spot left for discussion.
“We are more or less sorted with what we want to do. Now it is just about giving guys their roles and expecting them to stand up and deliver during the World Cup. So, we are not in a confused state anymore.

“Just probably one spot in the team that we have to discuss, and the rest of the team is pretty much sorted for us and we have been feeling pretty much balanced,” Kohli was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation ceremony last night.
Gautam Gambhir expresses doubts
Despite Kohli assuring the reporters, former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has expressed his concerns about India’s Playing XI for the looming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Giving the impression of remaining unconvinced with the decision have been taken, Gambhir added that even wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s won’t provide this team with enough battin depth.
“I feel squad has been more or less finalized because after the series we have IPL followed by World Cup. I don’t think there is any doubt regarding the squad. But I can guarantee this that this isn’t India’s best playing XI. Virat Kohli had said that this is India’s most likely playing XI for World Cup.

“But this playing XI does not give you enough confidence. Even if you add MS Dhoni to this team, you won’t find that batting depth in this playing XI,” Gambhir had said on air.
