Coming on the back of a stellar campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, England fast bowler Jofra Archer was expected to make the cut for the upcoming Ashes series. A lot of opinions were heard with respect to the 24-year old cricketer getting fast-tracked into the Test team.
In 11 ODIs in this World Cup, Archer dismissed 20 batsmen at an average of 23.05, an economy rate of 4.57 and a strike rate of 30.2. While he was the highest wicket-taker for England, he ended the season as the third-highest wicket-taker overall.

Going by his top performance, several illustrious names had advocated for Archer to get the nod in the upcoming series against Australia.
Has Jofra Archer been named in England’s Test squad?
Staring from July 24, England will play a one-off Test match against Ireland at Lord’s in the build-up to The Ashes which will commence from August 1 at Edgbaston. Among the biggest development from the 13-man squad selected for the Ireland Test is opening batsman Jason Roy receiving a maiden Test call-up.
Much like Archer, Roy also impressed one and all during the World Cup. Having scored 3,381 ODI runs at an average of 42.79 and a strike rate of 107.40, it was only a matter for the right-hand to be included into the Test team.
Other than Roy, England have also called up uncapped batsman Olly Stone and uncapped fast bowler Lewis Gregory. The trio might well be seen making their debut at Lord’s next week.

Veteran fast bowler James Anderson, whose selection was doubtful after sustaining a low grade calf muscle tear, has been declared fit and will take field at Lord’s against Ireland.
As far as Archer is concerned, he has been rested alongside Mark Wood (left side strain) citing a strain. Been rested against Ireland, will Archer be included for The Ashes remains unknown at this point in time.
Other than Archer and Wood, England all-rounder Ben Stokes and wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler has also been rested for the Ireland Test.
