The player will fail to make the cut for the side’s round of 16 contest
Losing 2-1 to Arsenal at the weekend wasn’t the only setback Tottenham received on the night. The club suffered a massive blow in terms of its squad as well as Heung-Min Son hobbled off the park in the contest.
The player suffered a knock in the opening stages of the encounter, one which prompted him to lumber away from the park in the 19th minute. It saw the club sweating on his fitness ahead of the side’s impending outing in the Europa League.
Son Ruled Out Of Europa League Encounter
Tottenham’s manager, Jose Mourinho asserted that Son would fail to recover in time for the club’s upcoming encounter against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
“I don’t know. Definitely out for tomorrow,” Mourinho said on Son as he ruled the player out for the contest.
“If a player is injured and cannot play, a friendly or official match, it doesn’t matter the match it is. So if we arrived next week and Sonny is injured and we can prove that to the South Korean Football Association, what’s he going to do there? Nothing. So if a player cannot play for the club, he cannot play for the country.”
The player’s absence will be a huge blow to the side as the team travels to Croatia in a bid to safeguard its 2-0 lead from the first round. Son has been absolutely sensational for Tottenham this term with the Korean notching up a daunting partnership alongside Harry Kane.
Lucas Moura who is set to be asked to take over Son’s role, spoke ahead of the Europa League clash and talked about how he’s fitted into the team ever since being recalled.
“I feel very comfortable in that position. I can go from the right to the left. I can go from a number nine. It’s a position I like to play and the gaffer is giving me the confidence,” Moura said on his new number 10 role.
“I am a Brazilian guy and to do it with my hand is very difficult. The Welsh mafia is very nice. They have accepted me very well,” Moura said on his celebration.
