ICC announce new limited overs rankings
ICC have updated their rankings in limited overs format for 2018 as their annual policy. Every May, ICC updates their rankings after taking in account performances of all the teams in past 48 months.
England has been announced No. 1 team in ODIs which comes as a surprise after their World Cup 2015 havoc. England topped the ranking and surpassed India after they gained 8 points due to annual update. South Africa are at 3rd place after losing 4 points due to update.
World Cup 2015 champions Australia took a massive hit due to annual update and they lost 8 points, which takes them to 5th place. They are just 2 points ahead of last year’s Champions Trophy winners, Pakistan.
Bangladesh are at 7th place with huge lead of 15 points over Sri Lanka, this not only shows massive strides that Bangladesh has taken in ODI cricket but also
Sri Lanka’s continuous downfall in recent times.
With respect to rankings for batsmen, Virat Kohli occupies the top spot in ODI rankings with 909 points and MS Dhoni occupies the 15th spot.
Pakistan are at apex of ICC T20 rankings for yet another year with 130 points. The biggest change in the table came when Australia jumped from 7th to 2nd place in matter of one series. They are just 4 points behind Pakistan with 126 points and 3 points ahead of India, who sit pretty at 3rd place.
The most successful T20 team and World T20 2016 winners, West Indies are at 7th place with 114 points just behind South Africa.
Yet another substantial change in the rankings came when Afghanistan trumped Sri Lanka by 2 points. Sri Lanka is at 9th place in T20 rankings which is their lowest position in the format. They won T20 World Cup in 2014 and they have to make drastic measures to take the team towards right path.
